What's In Your Attic?

What's In Your Attic?

Fly fishing gear, like so much else, has benefited from advances in modern technology, and yet the bones of the gear have remained the same for centuries. Dekezucker’s video from the 2012 Antiques Road Show takes a tour of some 100-year-old gear that is still plenty functional. The bamboo rod and classic reel from the late 1870s look strikingly similar to the fishing gear of today (although with a current retail value in the thousands of dollars, you’d be a wealthy person if you found a set like this in the attic). The set is completed by the predecessor to the cooler: the creel, a wicker basket that the fishermen of yesteryear lined with wet ferns to protect the fish they hooked.
