Dry Fly and Dropper
Sometimes you don't know whether to fish on top or down below. Often the answer is...both! The Dry fly and dropper, or the much catchier title of "Hopper and Dropper" is a great way to probe water when you are not sure where the fish are feeding. It of course is also a great alternative to using a nymph and a strike indicator. Having had a big trout slam my strike indicator on more than one occasion it can be a better confidence builder when you have a dry fly as your "strike indicator with hook attached."
If this is a new concept to you, this video will give you some good info on how to set it up and get started. Be aware that twice the flies can equal twice the opportunities for tangles, so pay attention to where your flies are on your cast.
Fishing both sides of the coin can be a really rewarding method! So think "both" - and you'll end up with more fish!
